I like the concept, but you need more of it to be in focus.

I would like to see it on a a darker or lighter bg , enhancing more the metallicness of it and more in focus .Nice idea though :)

Very good concept, Being as simple as it is the focus becomes really important. this needs to be sharpened up, Maybe a little stronger contrast? I really like the idea.

gaah! git that thang away from me! ( i have a phobia of needles) I think I see what you are trying to accomplish...highlighting the tip of the needle..the part to which is usually paid most attention to...as many have said before me, focus is somewhat of an issue here. Maybe not so much focus as the actual stillnes of the photographer/ee. Possibly extend the dof to include a bit more of the shaft. And yes, a different background would help; however, being the shade of gray that these metals are makes it difficult to select a background that will fully highlight it, since it's about right in the middle of the black&white spectrum. A dark, yet vibrant color, such as red, would probably make this stand out more, and might even add to the overall suggestiveness of the picture. In photographing the actual subject, I think this would be a very good candidate for a tripod. And the subject might do well to be placed on a table, or if you prefer affixed somehow to a wall.

Aside from my ramblings, sorry i can get kinda windy, I think that this has great potential. I would love to see a follow-up :)
